I have no idea how I even narrowed this list down to just 5 because there are so many amazing trails in our beautiful country, and I have hiked over 200 of them (that I’ve actually kept track of), but this is my best shot at it. I hope you enjoy and follow me @hikinglegsmegs for more hikes that may make this list for 2024!
Oregon
Tunnel Falls via Eagle Creek Trail #440 (12.2 miles RT) Rating: Moderate
This hike is truly one of a kind which is why it made my short list, there are so many great spots to stop at along the way with other cascading waterfalls to view but the famed one that you can actually walk behind as seen in my pictures below can be found around mile 5. Go early to find parking and beat the crowds as this hike can easily get inundated with people and the hiking trails can be very narrow in some places which make them feel extra precarious with more people.

Washington State
Maple Pass Trail (6.5 miles RT) Rating: Hard
North Cascades National Park may be my favorite National Parks to date. Not only does it have dog friendly trails, which is hard to find in many National Parks, but some parts have still not yet been overrun with people. This trail offered stunning 360 views and was a ton of fun to hike. It is also quite popular to hike in the fall for it’s stunning larches and pops of color.

Wyoming
Table Mountain via Face and North Teton Loop (10.1 miles RT) Rating: Hard
I actually hiked this trail twice in 3 days. My first attempt occurred during some snowy conditions and poor visibility and the second attempt had blue bird skies with a surprise bear sighting! You can hike 2 different routes on this one- one more moderate and one hard- and after completing both I would suggest the more moderate trail for more scenery on the incline, but if short on time than the hard route is suggested. Either option you choose, you will be rewarded with beautiful views of the Tetons from above.

Wyoming
Lakes Trail to Medicine Bow Peak Trail (6.6 miles RT) Rating: Moderate
Another WY trail because this state just has some truly beautiful landscapes. I hiked this one at the tail end of winter, but highly suggest hiking in warmer months after the snow melts so you can enjoy more of the alpine lake views. Regardless of when you go, the mountain vistas will always be breathtaking here.

Colorado
Mirror Lake and Crater Lake via Cascade Creek Trail (14.8 miles RT) Rating: Hard
One of my absolute favorite hikes and probably my top hike in CO. This one should be started early in the morning as parking can fill up at the trailhead and not only is it the longest hike on this list, but you will definitely want to take your time here to explore around the trail and take in the views while enjoying some snacks or lunch.
